Climbing Cho Oyu is an excellent introduction to the world of 8000 meter peaks. The sixth highest summit in the world, it is the most popular of the giant peaks, attracting many expeditions each year. High Altitude Dreams' goal will be the original route on the Northwest side

The route is of moderate difficulty and relatively safe, with outstanding views and good camps. It is our pleasure to provide support and logistics for experienced and self-reliant climbers. The High Altitude Dreams staff includes of some of the most experienced and skilled Sherpa climbers working on the mountain today; likewise our hardworking base camp staff is both well-trained and accommodating.

Services Provided :
  • Climbing permits, Environmental fees and deposit, Chinese Visa
  • Overland transport from Kathmandu to North base camp in Tibet.
  • Liaison Officer wages, expenses and equipment.
  • Local guide/base camp manager who will accompany the team trekking to base camp & back.
  • Sherpa climbing team, who will fix the route, establishing three camps on the mountain and stocking these camps with food, fuel and oxygen. (Members are expected to carry their own personal gear above base camp)
  • Oxygen – two Russian bottles (three liters each), including mask and regulator.
  • Food, fuel, stoves and cooking equipment on the mountain.
  • North Face tents for all camps.
  • Base Camp services include a BC Coordinator with skilled kitchen staff, Dining tent, Single tent for members, Hot water Shower and toilet facilities, Communication Tents & Gas Heater for Dinning Tent.

 

Itinerary:
August 26 - 27 Arrive in Kathmandu, where you will be received by the representatives of High Altitude Dreams and transported to your hotel. Begin final preparations and packing for the mountain.
August 28 One last day of sightseeing and shopping in Kathmandu.
August 29 Drive to Zhangmu, passing the international border, overnight in hotel.
August 30 Drive to Nyalam in Tibet, overnight in hotel.
August 31 Rest and acclimatization in Nyalam.
September 1 Drive to Tingri, overnight in hotel.
September 2 Drive to "Chinese Base Camp"(4800 meters) .
September 3 Rest day, "Chinese Base Camp" .
September 4 Rest day, "Chinese Base Camp".
September 5 Trek towards Base Camp, camp along trail.
September 6 Arrive at Base Camp (5700 meters) at the Nangpa La.
September 7 - October 1 Climbing period.
October 2 Trek to "Chinese Base Camp".
October 3 Drive to Tingri.
October 4 Drive to Zhangmu.
October 5 Drive to Kathmandu.

From Base Camp, the route goes up a convoluted glacier till below the NW Ridge, a steep, loose slope leads to Camp One. The route continues up the ice and snow-covered ridge, passing a short but steep ice wall, which are one of the technical cruxes of the route. From Camp Two to Camp Three the route climbs more steeply up the West Face. On summit day, the route climbs directly above Camp Three to a short but steep headwall of rock and ice, the second crux of the route. Above this obstacle, the route continues up the West Face, till the summit plateau is reached. A long but gradual climbs then leads to the top.

On summit day a Sherpa will accompany each climber, carrying extra oxygen if needed. High Altitude Dreams provides 2 bottles of Oxygen for the ascent. Normally it would be used on summit day.
