Ongoing social work in the Khumbu:

  • As always High Altitude Dreams devotes a portion of its proceeds from the climbing season into helping the people of the Khumbu.  In 2008 High Altitude Dreams organized a free one month climbing school for twenty young Nepalese aspiring to become climbing Sherpas.  Students were trained basic mountaineering and upon completion received certification from the Nepal Mountaineering Instructors Association (NMIA).  High Altitude Dreams continues to support aspiring climbing sherpas through our Everest training sherpa program.  Under our training sherpa program High Altitude Dreams supports all expenses of the trainees climb in order to give them real hands on mountaineering experience on Mt. Everest learning directly from our experienced expedition team.  In 2009 we supported 3 sherpas as training sherpas 2 of which reached the summit of Mt. Everest. In the spring of 2010 we continued our suport putting 3 more shepas on the mountain and we are proud to announce that all three have summited Mt. Eveverest.  We plan to continue our successful climbing sherpa program in the future as well as holding additional climbing schools.

  •  We are pleased to announce that in fall of 2009 Mahendra Jyoti school of Chaurikharka added a 10 +2 diploma program with the help of our successful fundraising campaign. On behalf of the children of the Khumbu we would like to thank Mingma  Tshering (Hapa) ($2000), Pemba Sherpa of Sherpa Painting in Colorado ($2000), Rishi Nirula ($1000), Maila Mingma Sherpa ($500), Nima Sherpa of Seattle ($250), and Emily Mansfeild $250, for their generous contributions in helping us successfully fund this project.

  • We along with other concerned members of Chaurikharka's Sherpa community have joined together to form the NGO Networking Education for Poverty Alleviation among Locals (NEPAL) an organization dedicated to improving educational opportunities for Nepal's less fortunate children.  We will continue our support for Education in Nepal and the Khumbu through our active involvement in NEPAL. To find out more about NEPAL's work, donate, or volunteer, visit the website: teachingnepal.org

We love our work more than business
